Now bulletproof helmets have become an integral part of some police agencies and military safety gear. Its functions are not limited to the military, any organization or even individual that needs security protection can also be equipped with bulletproof helmets as needed. For example, SWAT units, riot police, and even patrol officers can be equipped with bulletproof helmets.
Ballistic helmets have different levels of protection, and these levels are usually tested according to the standards of the National Institute of Justice. The NIJ protection rating is based on the level of bullets it can resist. Generally speaking, Class III and IV are resistant to ordinary rifle bullets; NIJ I to III are resistant to all kinds of pistol bullets.

From a structural point of view, bulletproof helmets can be divided into three types: PASGT, FAST and MICH, which are mainly classified according to their height. PASGT is the abbreviation of Personnel Armor System for Ground Troops, which usually has 19 independent bullet protection layers, which are designed to partially cover the wearer’s ears. MICH is the abbreviation of The Modular Integrated Communications, and its production material is usually Kevlar, which has a level IIIA defense capability. The MICH helmet is specially designed to resist 9mm and 44 MAG bullets as well as blunt weapon attacks. It provides more room in the wearer’s ear to use with a communication device. The original design included a brim and a lower ear cut. However, the brim and ears were gradually removed. The FAST (The Ops-Core Future Assault Shell Technology) helmet is also known as the fast combat helmet. The height of the ear cut part is the highest among the three types of helmets. Usually special forces choose to wear this helmet shape.

Speaking of which, many people think that bulletproof helmets are only used for bulletproofing. In fact, in addition to a certain degree of bulletproofing, their main function is to resist the impact of fragments and other objects. This is very important for law enforcement and security personnel. Police and security services, in particular, are more likely to encounter ramming weapons, projectiles and other head impact hazards. Therefore, for bulletproof helmets, its ballistic resistance and impact resistance are equally important.
